Snowshoeing is easy to learn, fun for all ages, and can be a high-energy cardio workout. Join Reach The Summit for an unforgettable day on one of Colorado’s untouched backcountry trails.

Enjoy a tranquil loop through a serene mountain meadow, explore a shady canyon, or tackle a heart-pumping ascent up a snow-covered peak for spectacular winter views. Snowshoeing allows individuals and groups of varying fitness levels to experience the peace and beauty of walking through snow-dappled forests under the winter sun.

Whether you’re looking for a high-paced adventure or a relaxing family outing, our guides know the best routes based on your preferences, weather, and snow conditions, ensuring a safe and memorable tour. We offer a half-day tour (approximately 4 hours, departing daily at 8 am and 1 pm) and a shorter 2-hour tour (departing daily at 8 am, 11 am, and 2 pm). Snowshoes and poles are provided for each tour.

Itinerary

  • Pre-Trip – Your guide will contact you no later than 48 hours before the trip to review adventure details.
  • Day of Tour – Arrive at the trailhead or Reach The Summit basecamp to meet your guide, then set out for a day filled with adventure and learning.

Area Info Reach The Summit holds permits to operate across Summit County and surrounding areas, providing access to a diverse range of terrain. We typically confirm our destinations just before each tour to ensure optimal conditions. Our snowshoe tours run from December through April.

FAQs

Are there any prerequisites to join? No experience is necessary. We offer trips for kids, families, and individuals of all experience levels.

How physically fit should I be? Reach The Summit prioritizes safety. Our guides are trained to recognize and manage potential backcountry hazards, and your enjoyment depends on your fitness level. We’ll contact you beforehand to select an appropriate trail.

What’s the minimum age for a snowshoeing tour? Our tours are generally open to children ages 5 and up, though exceptions may be made based on your child’s size and ability.

When and how will I meet my guide? Your guide will contact you at least 48 hours prior to your activity to finalize meeting details.

What should I bring? We supply snowshoes. We recommend you bring:

  • Hard or softshell pants
  • Synthetic or merino wool base layers
  • Softshell jacket (optional)
  • Down or synthetic insulated jacket
  • Hardshell or water/wind-resistant jacket
  • Light gloves for uphill travel and warm gloves
  • Brimmed hat or visor
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen
  • Neck gaiter or buff
  • Snacks, water, food, and a medium backpack

Can I join a group snowshoeing tour? All of our snowshoe tours are booked privately and customized. For group trip options, please contact us to check for availability.

Should we tip our guide? Gratuities for guides are greatly appreciated but not expected. A safe, educational, and enjoyable experience often warrants gratuities in the range of 15-20%.
